Fleece blanket

When I think of polar fleece blankets, I think of being warm and cosy on a cold winter night. Many people think it takes too much time to make a blanket, but someone who enjoys making things will enjoy this project. If you have a little time and some skill, you can make a polar fleece blanket.

Unexpectedly, you don’t even have to sew. Fleece does not unravel. Cheaper fleeces may pill, which means they shed little balls of fur, but they will never come apart. You only need the fabric and a good pair of scissors to make a polar fleece blanket. It really is that easy.

Start by picking out a good fleece. Look for a thick, tightly woven fleece that doesn’t show signs of shedding into small balls of fuzz.  Most of the time, a good fleece costs between $15 and $20. Because there are so many stores online, you can save money by shopping there. They want your business, so they’ll cut prices by a lot to ensure they get it.

Choose enough fabric for the length you want the blanket to be. If you plan to use it on the bed, give it extra length on each side and near the foot of the bed so it can be tucked in. Most of the time, you should add 10 to 12 inches to the length and width of your bed. If you’re going to add fringe to your blanket, plan to add 12 inches to the length, width, and height of the blanket.

Once you’ve bought your fabric, flip it over and put it on a large table or the floor. Cut the fabric so that the edges are even. If you were making a blanket without fringe, you are finished.

If not, use a yardstick and a fabric pen to draw horizontal lines about six inches from each edge of the blanket. Then, draw lines that go up and down from the horizontal lines. Depending on your taste, put these lines about half an inch to three-quarters of an inch apart. Keep doing this until vertical lines go from the main line to every edge.

Cut along each edge with fabric shears. Keep cutting until each side has fringe on it. Use the zigzag pinking shears to give a child’s or baby’s blanket a fun look.

A polar fleece blanket is the easiest thing to “sew” in the whole world. It’s an excellent craft for kids of all ages because they don’t need a needle. A warm fleece blanket is a thoughtful and easy gift for any event. Have a fleece blanket on hand to keep warm in the winter. The best part is that you can tell everyone you made it yourself.
